Modern industrial operations rely on multiple software systems across various areas of the plant. Integrating all of them can be challenging, but it doesn’t have to be.

OPC Router is a software solution designed to connect all your systems, regardless of the platform or program. It helps you access and organize critical data across your entire operation, allowing you to make informed decisions without wasting time pulling information from disconnected sources.

To explain this more clearly, we spoke with Thorsten Weiler from inray Industriesoftware GmbH in Germany, who emphasized the real value of OPC Router: bringing systems and departments together.

“It’s just like with people—each of us might be an expert in our own area, but real progress happens when we communicate and collaborate with others,” said Thorsten.

“The same applies to modern production environments. Knowing technical parameters like temperature, pressure, or speed is important—but understanding how those relate to other areas like energy management, quality control, maintenance status, warehousing, and even financial data is what allows a company to optimize the entire process and increase both efficiency and effectiveness.”

Despite what you might expect, OPC Router is not complicated to use.

“Its main strengths are operational simplicity, flexibility, and support for a wide range of connectivity protocols. It works on any platform—Windows, Linux, Mac—and can connect systems regardless of whether they’re on a local server, on the edge, or in the cloud,” Thorsten added.

“It brings together data from all areas of the company and enables seamless exchange of information between systems. That’s why every use case we’ve seen has been successful—because the software truly adds value.”

He also shared a real-world example from a dairy plant in Germany:

“It all starts when a truck arrives at the gate. The system identifies the load using RFID, determines the origin, and verifies the type of product. Then it controls the weighing process and manages the bacterial testing of a milk sample. The valves only open to pump the milk into the tanks if the results meet quality standards.

OPC Router coordinates communication between all involved systems—HMI, ERP, LIMS, gates, scales, and more—saving time, reducing human error, and ensuring product quality.

What about Mexico?

Can OPC Router help companies in Mexico as well?

“I can’t speak to specific local conditions, but this is a global challenge. Companies everywhere need to optimize operations to stay competitive. With international competition and global availability of products and services, modern digital technologies are essential. If you’re not a monopoly, you need to adapt—or risk losing market share.”

In Mexico, Infoportal is the official distributor of OPC Router and a leader in industrial software.

We’re proud to work with INFOPORTAL as our Preferred Distributor in Mexico. They’re not only part of the OPC Router family—they’re experts in industrial automation and communication. They have deep knowledge of OPC Router, OPC servers like Kepware, as well as HMIs and MES systems. That combination gives modern industrial companies everything they need to increase efficiency, effectiveness, and overall performance.”
